Welcoming Ambassador-designate of Thailand to Australia Ms. Busadee Santipitaks

Ms. Santipitaks is the Ambassador-designate of Thailand to the Commonwealth of Australia. Prior to this appointment, she served as Director-General of the Department of Information as well as Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand from 2017-2020. Before that, she was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN in Jakarta from 2015-2017. She joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a career service officer in 1986.

Prior to joining the Committee of Permanent Representatives of ASEAN in Jakarta, Ms. Santipitaks was Deputy Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs during 2012-2015. She also served as a Director responsible for Thai-EU relations, ASEM and OSCE matters between 2007-2012 after having been assigned as Counsellor and then as Minister-Counsellor at the Royal Thai Embassy and the Mission of Thailand to the European Union, Brussels during 2004- 2007 responsible for relations between Thailand and Belgium, Thailand and Luxembourg, as well as Thai-EU related matters.

During 1997-2004, she served at the Department of ASEAN Affairs, responsible for ASEAN-EU dialogue relations, and at Office of the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs. Her first assignment overseas was between 1993-1997, at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations, New York. Prior to that, she worked at the Department of Information, Department of International Organisations as well as Department of American and South Pacific Affairs.

In recognition of her services, she has been bestowed the Knight Grand Cordon (First Class) of the Most Exalted Order of the White Elephant and the Knight Grand Cross (First Class) of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand.

Ms. Santipitaks is a graduate of the University of Delhi, India where she received a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1985. She also received a M.A.L.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Massachusetts, USA in 1990.
